New Year, New Start, Same God

2025 For those of us born in the 1900’s, we may have had a different expectation of what the world would like one quarter of the way through the 21st century. I know I grew up with two possible outcomes: Mad Max as the world descended into chaos or the Jetsons with flying cars and personal robots. While neither has definitively arrived, we can look around and see the steady progression into a new and sometimes terrifying future.

We don't need to live in fear. Our country may be divided but there are still good people working toward a more just and accepting society. Technology continues to advance as our phones provide so much more than making calls. AI has already begun to displace workers as it increasingly takes on roles that were held by humans before.

Our world is changing, alternating between hope and despair. It’s easy to forget that God has this all under His control. He’s not surprised where we are going or where we’ve come from. He hasn’t abandoned us in this era of disbelief. He loves us and wants what is better for us, but He lets us live our lives in freedom. We will see natural consequences as we destroy our planet. We see the divisions of people as different versions of our future are fought for. Through it all, He is with us.

God’s message hasn’t changed. He still calls us to love Him and love others. He tells us not to stand in judgment of others, promising justice in the end. But He is a forgiving God, a loving God. He set the example of sacrifice and acceptance. All He asks is that we follow in His footsteps,

We can face this year with hope, knowing He will be with us every step of the way. He will guide us. He will support us. He will urge us on.

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9-10

Praise God!
