I was very moved by Pastor Malcolm’s sermon this morning. Based on Luke 1:68-79, he spoke of God using His children to transform the world. “God is eager to use us and our talents to change the world… God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.” I found myself asking: Is God using me in ways I don’t see, to serve His agenda not mine. It’s not my place to say what God will do.
Society says we must be rich and powerful to make a difference. We must go viral to see results. God says we must be humble. So many scriptures speak to this: 1 Peter 5:6, Philippians 2:3-11, Matthew 23:12, James 4:6 and 10, just to name a few. God lifts up the humble and opposes the proud. It wasn’t the great that God chose. He chose a simple girl to bear His child. He called John the Baptist to prepare the way. His followers were fisherman and even a tax collector. God took these people and used them in amazing ways, but He didn’t bless them with fame or wealth as we frequently think He should. We read their stories and learn from their faith, but they were scattered and martyred.
God can use YOU! God can use ME! Right here. Right now. Our names may not go down in history, but our impact can be immeasurable. As we celebrate advent and prepare for Christmas let’s remember the humble savior we serve. God wants us to change the world not with arguments but with LOVE. Prepare the way of the LORD!
